Director Logistics Division June 2010 - April 2011

Army | 88A | O-4 | Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, USA

  • Led a logistics organization with 62 percent fewer team members than usual for months. Always met the tough, delivery-in-24-hours standard to customers spread over 150 miles. Kept my team motivated by recognizing their hard work.
  • Strategically planned logistics, warehouse, transportation, and customer services and managed 50 team members.
  • Designed, built, and supervised a new logistics system that moved logistic systems anywhere in the world fast—despite very limited air transport. Went beyond successful test to provide playbooks that made the process smooth.
  • Trained my entire team of 50 in a new, critical logistics method. Every one made perfect scores on exam testing their mastery of this challenging system.
  • Reacted smoothly to defuse a situation that could have shut down 105 mail¬rooms with almost no notice. Found the right expert. Used train-the-trainer to get the job done in just 30 days without spending one extra dime.
  • Turned around a demoralized group. Persuaded leadership to invest in new equipment. Team members’ morale and productivity up. My approach now the corporate standard.
  • Served as purchasing liaison and negotiated with suppliers, manufacturers, retailers and consumers.
  • Monitored and maintained the quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, and transport costs for efficiency reports.
  • Led and influenced subordinate logistics managers and team leaders to accomplish critical tasks and achieve organization objectives.
  • Collaborated to keep higher and lower headquarters, superiors, and subordinates informed of the key issues facing the organization.
  • A leader role model who exhibited high standards, discipline and provided effective examples through personal actions.
  • Demonstrated a unique capacity to assess business situations effectively and draw sound conclusions.
  • Positioned the organization to achieve the vision and mission of the organization's higher headquarters.
  • Engaged in 'ethical reasoning', when determining the right thing to do, even when no one was watching.

Director Transportation Division January 2008 - June 2010

Army | 88A | O-4 | Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, USA

  • Collaborated with other managers and staff members to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Helped build a new logistics system to move massive amounts of materiel across seven countries and the earth’s largest enclosed body of water. Solved sover¬eignty and security problems with rail, boat, and road transport. Concept proven.
  • Gave senior leadership complete control of 90,000 containers most units were ready to abandon. Engaged and worked with a knowledge management expert to build a web-based dashboard that accounted for each one. What once took 44 hours to do now delivered in seconds. Other customers adopted it wholesale.
  • Got control of 500K shipping containers spread over 169K square miles. Saved $800K by finding a better container. Increased efficiency so well we cut costly inventory by 175K containers.
  • Transported 4K pieces of critical material safely across 20 miles that hundreds of protestors disrupted earlier. Integrated offloading ships, dozens of drivers, and a complete security force smoothly. Overcame resistance by local police who remem-bered earlier demonstrations. Done before protestors knew what had happened.
  • Monitored operations to ensure that staff members complied with government regulations, administrative policies and procedures, and safety rules.
  • Oversaw the daily logistics relating to transportation of cargo, while working closely with customers and suppliers.
  • Led and influenced subordinate transportation managers and team leaders to accomplish critical tasks and achieve organization objectives.
  • Demonstrated a unique capacity to assess situations effectively and draw sound conclusions.
